Boston-based MALL selected for Wallpaper* Architects’ Directory 2019WALLPAPER* ARCHITECTS’ DIRECTORY 2019: Jennifer Bonner founded MALL in Boston in 2009. The acronym stands for ‘Mass Architectural Loopty Loops’, or ‘Miniature Angles & Little Lines’, or even ‘Maximum Arches with Limited Liability’, expressing Bonner’s playful reimagining of ordinary architectural functions, as shown by Haus Gables, her twist on a traditional gable-roof house in Atlanta, Georgia.

Santiago and Berlin-based Gun Architects selected for Wallpaper* Architects' DirectoryWALLPAPER* ARCHITECTS’ DIRECTORY 2019: Based in Santiago and Berlin, Lene Nettelbeck and Jorge Godoy founded Gun in 2010. Driven by the properties of the materials they work with, this experimental studio won MoMA’s Young Architects Program International in 2011, and recent projects include the remote Casa de Huéspedes (pictured) in Chile.

London-based Al-Jawad Pike selected for the Wallpaper* Architects’ Directory 2019WALLPAPER* ARCHITECTS’ DIRECTORY 2019: Dean Pike and Jessam Al-Jawad both studied architecture at the Bartlett and worked together at David Chipperfield Architects. In 2014, they established their London practice, which approaches architecture as an everyday art form. Projects include a two-storey extension and a terraced house (pictured) in Peckham in south London.

Porto-based Fala Atelier selected for Wallpaper* Architects’ Directory 2019WALLPAPER* ARCHITECTS’ DIRECTORY 2019: Porto-based studio Fala Atelier founded in 2013 by Filipe Magalhães, Ana Luisa Soares and Ahmed Belkhodja has been internationally recognised for its contribution to an international conversation on architecture. Their naïve projects, such as the House in Rua do Paraíso (pictured), are collages of elements from postmodernism to history, with a charcaterful take on context.

Cologne-based architect Frédéric Schnee selected for Wallpaper* Architects’ Directory 2019WALLPAPER* ARCHITECTS’ DIRECTORY 2019: Taking an academic approach that applies architectural theory to spatial design, Frédéric Schnee is currently an assistant professor in architecture at TH Köln. His first project, the Peach House (pictured) in Beijing, begins his journey towards a socially oriented architecture that utilises interdisciplinary collaboration.

LA and NYC-based FreelandBuck selected for Wallpaper* Architects’ Directory 2019WALLPAPER* ARCHITECTS’ DIRECTORY 2019: NYC and LA-based duo David Freeland and Brennan Buck, set up their practice in 2010. It was their LA house projects, that respond to the climate and terrain, while also questioning how architecture should grow and adapt to suit changing urban contexts, that caught our attention.
