South Korean designers Sun Woo Hwang and Sun Ki Hwang joined forces in 2014 to create Sun Hwang + Studio. Their practice is orientated around drawing and ‘raw geometry’ which becomes the defining factor in creating their minimalist architecture and design. Their aesthetic is influenced by architects who play with light in space such as Alvaro Siza and Caruso St John, and Asian folk paintings for their storytelling and visualisation of three dimensions in two-dimensional form. Recently completed by the studio is a chapel built in Andong, Korea where lighting was used to enhance the curved geometry of gothic-style arches and octagonal windows.
