Miss Clara — Stockholm, Sweden
There is a cheeky vivaciousness to Miss Clara, a 92-room hotel in the former Ateneum girls' school named after the first headmistress, Clara Strömberg. The 1910 stone façade lights up with art nouveau detailing and arched windows overlooking vibrant Sveavägen boulevard, which cuts through the area of Norrmalm, billed as the next Södermalm. Part of Nobis Group, the hospitality business of the Catenacci family, Miss Clara is design led, with a quality kitchen overseen by chef Daniel Guest from the group's flagship restaurant, Operakällaren. Gothenburg-based architect Gert Wingårdh has reimagined the original art nouveau details with bentwood bedheads and footboards by Swedish manufacturer Gemla. Traditional half-glass doors are screened with whimsical cotton curtains - the same used to hide the open wardrobes. Oversized coat hooks are mounted on pigskin walls, which contrast with the stained-oak herringbone parquet. A built-in window seat is perfect for watching the street life.
