It was with great excitement that we received our guests and speakers for the Wallpaper* HausWork* talk, the first in a series of events we're staging at the epicentre of this year's London Festival of Architecture, the Building Centre on Store Street, London W1.

The talk, about the 21st Century Townhouse, was given to a packed room, as three practices described their own version of contemporary urban residential design. Each touched on the elements that supported their design, the issues they had to deal with to make their dream a reality, and the solutions they uncovered.
Every site had it own unique history and context - from Sarah Featherstone's own house in an inner-city brownfield site in Bethnal Green, to the converted mews Front to Back house by Scape and the noroof-designed Slot House in New York. However, the common thread was their creators' passionate belief that they could make a difference in the urban context.
There were plenty of inspiring conversations at the drinks reception that followed, where everyone had the chance to discuss the issues raised and sample the delicious chilled Champagne Taittinger so generously provided by our sponsor.
With this first event under our belts we can't wait for the next one: same time, same place on Wednesday 2 July 2008. This time there'll be a fresh new line-up, more ideas, more projects and more champagne. You're very welcome to join us.
