How to describe the collaboration of storied Danish manufacturer Fritz Hansen and contemporary German designer Sebastian Herkner? They share a love for great design, traditional craftsmanship paired with a feel for new technologies, and a true flair for colour, authentic materials and textures. They embrace and integrate different cultures, and show respect for all of the details and steps necessary to create an extraordinary object. They demonstrate balance and intuition as part of an important and continuous dialogue that straddles disciplines. And they cultivate beauty while emphasising function.
To create the ‘Let’ lounge chair for Fritz Hansen, Herkner, Maison & Objet’s Designer of the Year 2019, drew on his full range of tenets, methods, material preferences and skill. The chair, says Herkner, is a piece of furniture with a physicality and character that interacts with the body. ‘The general idea is lightness and comfort. The chair becomes an oasis to relax, a place to stay awhile. The armrest spreads its wings in an inviting gesture.’ Adds Christian Andresen, Fritz Hansen’s head of design, ‘The curved back is designed to cradle and comfort. It is an excellent design either as a standalone chair or arranged in groups for socialising.’
Herkner´s first design in collaboration with Fritz Hansen, the ‘Let’ lounge chair is constructed without glue, making it steam clean-friendly and optimised for high-use environments such as corporate waiting areas, hospitality sites and hotel guestrooms, as well as smaller residential spaces. It’s a new addition to a collection of iconic Fritz Hansen lounge chairs, including Arne Jacobsen´s ‘Egg’ and ‘Swan’ and Poul Kjærholm’s ‘PK22’. The ‘Let’ embodies Herkner’s flair and signature aesthetic, with Fritz Hansen’s expert craftsmanship and quality. It’s available in fully upholstered textile or leather; bases come in powder-coated steel, classic chrome, or wood (oak, natural ash or black-stained ash). Beauty and responsibility and an armrest that communicates inviting gestures.
The ‘Let’ lounge chair by Sebastian Herkner and Fritz Hansen will be in stores from October. Discover more at fritzhansen.com
