Finca Sonrisa — Mallorca, Spain
Though it might sometimes feel as if winter will never end, we’re already casting our eye afar for our summer escape. At the top of our list is this handsome retreat that’s set a brisk 30km west of Palma de Mallorca.
Conceived in the style of a finca estate and built of rough-hewn stone and red clay roof tiles, the five-bedroom bolthole – which is rented out as an entire house – makes the most of its sun-drenched perch on the north side of Mount Randa with rooms and public spaces giving out over a panorama of the Tramuntana range.
The interiors are the work of Munich-based studio Holzrausch and Lissy Hartl, the pair anchoring the main 500sqm villa with a capacious 10-m long kitchen, a well-stocked bar made of American walnut and dark Emperador marble, and an outdoor pool framed by date palms and a dizzying view of the low tree-shrouded valley.
