Agnona S/S 2020 Milan Fashion Week Women's
Mood board: ‘The fine suiting of Agnona subverts the maximalist street style spectacle… these are clothes to flatter a woman, who has zero time to get dressed,’ said Dal Chodha in the Hushed Tones feature of our September Style Special issue – one celebrating fashion’s minimalist mood. A longtime proponent of luxurious pared-back style is Agnona’s Simon Holloway who has the infinitely elegant, trend-rejecting woman in mind. Fashion and design are naturally intertwined in Milan, and for S/S 2020 Holloway harked back to a black and white 1981 photograph of the first Memphis showroom in the city, with a collection of easy oversized tailoring, flowing dresses and trenchcoats imagined in typical Agnona neutrals and suiting checks, alongside more Memphis-inspired shades like turquoise, lilac and peach.
Finishing touches: Chunky chain link jewellery is a S/S 2020 staple. Holloway’s take had a more naturalistic nod, and chain necklaces, bracelets and earrings were imagined with organic, asymmetric links, inspired by the natural forms of individual stitches of yarn.
Best in show: Ultra fine viscose cashmere, double face Century cashmere and impossibly sleek mohair – the fabrications employed by Agnona are utterly luxurious. For spring, a long pleated taupe trench coat was cut from silk dupioni, woven on one of only four antique looms at the Lanificio Agnona in Trivero.
