Step inside the latest Formarch residence during Palm Springs Modernism Week
A newly completed private residence in the historic Seven Lakes community of Palm Springs will throw open its doors during the 2020 Modernism Week, celebrating Italian design and its creators, FORMARCH
New to the mid-century modern line-up this year at Modernism Week in Palm Springs, a recently completed Formarch-designed residence will be open its doors to visitors for the first time starting 17 February, 2020.
Located near The Parker Hotel, the sprawling, historic Seven Lakes community is comprised of 341 well-preserved mid-century homes. This newly-launched private residence within them is indicative of an Italian modernist design influence set against an unembellished desert backdrop and a quintessential putting green fairway.
As an architecture and interior design studio, Formarch has made a name in the U.S. for skillful and clever custom designed homes from coast to coast including ranches and resorts. The Palm Springs home is adorned with original international art work spanning from the 50s, 60s and 70s, Italian sculptures, custom furnishings, atrium-style courtyards and is a standout on the 2020 tour.
The single-level home was originally designed by local Richard A. Harrison in the early 1960s, and hits all the right notes with a horizontal, flat roof, three-dimensional patterned Shadowal concrete exterior block walls and floor to ceiling windows that frame the mountain views in the distance. The interiors blend mid-century ceramic lamps from Glenn Dooley with Fortuny throw pillow and triangle stacking tables.
According to New York City based Brent Leonard, principal design director at Formarch, ‘the inspiration is to bring a uniquely Italian, collectible modernist elegance to mid-century American architecture, particularly in this Palm Springs locale, located at the iconic Seven Lakes.'
The backdrop and location have been a recent draw for other architects and designers in the area too. ‘The sun drenched, mountain vista created an ideal perspective from which to design, also reflected in the new capsule collection tables, custom created by Formarch in the kitchen and living area, with beautiful grapefruit trees outdoors on the property, which inform the color of the upholstered seating area,' says Leonard.
Formarch Partners are new to the community, but will graciously open their latest design during the festival to reveal a true gem of the desert; and they will be in good company. For the past 50 years, the Seven Lakes Country Club has housed an array of Hollywood celebrities from Liberace to Jack Benny, along with two US Presidents Dwight D Eisenhower and Lyndon B Johnson.
