We’ve awarded Hussein Chalayan the ‘Best Pop Star’ award in our 2018 Design Awards. For A/W 2017, the London-based designer was inspired by party poppers and created patterned bibs that opened to eject glitter, confetti and tinsel. Meanwhile, British designer Garth Robert’s rug series for CC-Tapis, was inspired by a confetti covered floor after a birthday celebration. And the dotted motif also appeared on wall coverings by Fern Living and upholstery textiles by Dedar. Here, we go behind the scenes on one of our February 2018 issue (W*227) photoshoots – lensed by Sofie Middernacht & Maarten Alexander – and energetically animated with the streamers and colourful confetti of Chalayan’s designs.
