The Hotel Salem — Salem, USA

Better known for its 17th-century witch trials rather than its boutique lodgings, the coastal city of Salem is on the up with the arrival of a new 44-room property, courtesy of local hospitality group Lark.
Keeping the building’s original 1895 windows and high ceilings in tact, the company’s director of design Rachel Reider, took her cues from building’s past as a high-end clothing shop, with a mid-century modern design layered with furnishings, motifs and a bold colour palette inspired from New England’s 1950s and 60s department stores.
Appetites fuelled after a day spent exploring the brick-lined streets of Salem – or even downtown Boston which is a mere 30 minutes away – make sure you come back to Counter for chef Justin Perdue’s local menu or perhaps a tipple and a snack at The Roof, the city’s only rooftop bar.
