Penthouse Bar & Grill — Bangkok, Thailand
Dining out in Bangkok can be a dizzying experience, what with its gastronomic haul of eateries, but in the case of the Penthouse Bar & Grill, it literally is.
The arrival on the 35th floor, which includes a mezzanine, of the city’s swanky Park Hyatt sets the tone for the six F&B venues that design studio AvroKO have inserted throughout the three-storey penthouse. The effect is designed to shock and awe and, on that front, it’s very clear that little expense has been spared, whether in the collectibles and tchotchkes sprinkled through the rooms, or in the lushly opulent styling.
A 1960s BMW R27 motorbike in the white Carrara marbled foyer and the brushed brass staircase that winds its way up and down the penthouse is a hint of things to come, with AvroKO unfurling walnut timber walls and polished nickel through the Cocktail Bar; Macassar ebony, crystal panels and surgical lamps in the Whiskey Room; and grey silk wall panels and opium beds in The Mezzanine.
At this height, it’s no surprise that the prized space is the Rooftop Terrace on the 36th floo, where a customised streetlamp-inspired light fixture and a bar of teak and slate command jaw-dropping views of Bangkok.
