Mood board: There was a lot going on in John Galliano’s sophomore ready-to-wear collection for Maison Margiela: fishnets and candy coloured beehives, silver accents in many forms, Ziggy Stardust-esque make-up, clingfilm tights and Geisha elements. All also on male models.
Finishing touches: A backpack attached to a kimono-sleeved jacket added a contemporary feel, and so did utility style bows and belts that threw off the traditional Japanese theme, especially when teamed with shower-cap headwear.
Best in show: The genius Galliano touch came through in his vibrant colour combinations. Green was paired with yellow, dark brown with turquoise and cherry red and dégradé blue with pink detailing, adding to the theatricality of his impeccable structured gowns and sharply cut tops.
