Emporio Armani A/W 2014
What happens to 'The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit' when he falls into the hands of Giorgio Armani at his Emporio Armani line? He shrinks into a new, more modernly proportioned package, where pants sling off the hips and are cropped in a sharp line above the ankle, and jackets are cut short and snug across the torso. Footwear also got fancy this season, sprinkled in silver studs and stacked above jagged rubber platform soles. When Armani jogs after sportswear, the results in his tailored clothing line up are spectacular. We loved the silhouette of a low-slung track pant cut in a rich, dense black velvet. And nobody does a better sweater jacket than this designer - this season's best one had a windowpane of quilted nylon on the back. Not sure we'll be skiing down next winter's slopes in purple iridescent ponchos, or grey cable knit bicycle shorts - but we'll take a black astrakhan belted jacket any time, any day, any place.
