Cosmoprof 2024: the beauty innovations discovered by Wallpaper*
Cosmoprof invited Wallpaper* to discover the latest innovations in beauty, from tech devices to natural skincare
In partnership with Cosmoprof
Cosmoprof is the world’s largest beauty tradeshow. It takes place in Bologna each year, showcasing the work of 3,000 companies, from 69 countries around the globe. Attended by every type of beauty professional you could think of, Cosmoprof is considered a vital hub of connection and research for B2B networking. In addition, a programme of talks and round tables provides those at the trade fair with insight into the beauty industry's present and future, with discussions on trends, sustainability, and the technology set to shape consumer habits in the coming years.
In the spirit of supporting the now and the next, Cosmoprof also stages the Cosmoprof Awards, with nominees spanning from household names to emerging brands. 2024’s winners included Danish brand LastObject, which took away three trophies for its power-to-liquid micellar water, reusable nail polish remover rounds, and reusable cotton swabs; supplier Andretti Cosmetics for its single-use face cleansing gummies; Dyson, for its latest hair innovation, the Supersonic r; and beloved Greek brand Korres for its fragrance Lefko, which is inspired by the clean scent of freshly painted Aegean houses. A stand-out winner was sustainable manufacturer Fr&Partners, for its Fr.Handly Kit, which contains several solutions to improve accessibility for consumers with mobility difficulties.
The fair is structured into halls, pavilions, and even satellite events, such as CosmoPack, dedicated to the entire cosmetics supply chain. Exhibiting here are suppliers of ingredients and raw materials, plus contract manufacturers of bespoke blends and private labels, packaging design and machinery. Cosmoprof invited Wallpaper* to discover it all, including the latest sustainable solutions for reducing the industry’s carbon footprint, new developments in beauty tech, and trends and brands from markets such as Africa and the Pacific Islands. This also included the East Asian market and the exhibitors at the Korean pavilions. Here are five highlights we spotted there.
Cosmoprof 2024: five Korean beauty highlights discovered by Wallpaper*
1. Sennok
Sennok is a new beauty and lifestyle brand inspired by the culture and rituals around bathing. It makes Gua Sha tools whittled from wood, silk scrunchies, and more, alongside its best sellers: perfume, lotion and hand creams all designed to be put on directly after emerging from a hot bath or shower.
2. Mixsoon
Mixsoon is a cult K-beauty brand known for its luxury yet minimalist products that aid in providing coveted ‘glass skin’, through fermented, all natural ingredients. Every plant, including ingredients for products such as its Bean Essence and Centella Mask, the brand grows entirely by itself.
3. Dr. NL
Dr. NL brings Swiss and Korean beauty philosophies together as one. Founded by Dr. Nikolaus Linde, an aesthetic medicine practitioner, products are formulated with ingredients that are optimised for hydration, soothing and elasticity, including its Eye and Neck Cream containing chitosan and edelweiss.
4. Janus Pro Hybrid
The Janus Pro is a piece of beauty tech made by PIE, a manufacturer of skin analysis machines. The Janus Pro Hybrid is an updated model of its original counterpart, with the newest innovation including Xenon Flash and UV LED (which produces a light source similar to the spectrum of sunlight, allowing imaging to be clearer and more precise).
5. SIF Pro Hair
Also from PIE is the SIF Pro Hair, a compact and ergonomic imaging tool that looks closely at the scalp’s surface. Using four different light sources and lenses similar to the human eye, the SIF Pro Hair delivers FULL HD high-resolution video and different types of magnification according to the user’s needs.
