Wallpaper* and SNOW explore the alchemy of grown diamonds in a new film
Wallpaper* and grown-diamond specialist SNOW partnered on the Class of ’24 exhibition during Milan Design Week 2024 and a new film exploring the art and alchemy of the laboratory’s process
In partnership with SNOW
A laboratory of ideas and a studio for innovation in grown diamonds, San Francisco-based SNOW invites cutting-edge, multidisciplinary talents to redefine the creative horizons of diamond culture.
A new film made by Wallpaper* explores the expression and alchemy of SNOW’s grown diamonds. The grown diamond, sculpted at the atomic level, is showcased as a fascinating story of enlightened luxury, a mastery of art and science, and the pinnacle of modern craftsmanship.
The film comes as part of SNOW’s partnership with Wallpaper* on the Class of ’24 exhibition held during Milan Design Week 2024, which spotlights emerging design talent from diverse disciplines and aims to strengthen creative networks and champion the vanguard of design that will help shape the future.
With an era-defining narrative that casts carbon as a cornerstone material of the future, the film explores its potential and power. A sliver of a diamond seed cradled in a small chamber is the beginning of the growing process. There follows a carefully calibrated, superheated environment, a patented blend of gases ionised into plasma, layers of atomic carbon gently falling in layers, accumulating one atom at a time. And the diamond is grown from seed to stone.
Through this extraordinary transformation, SNOW gives designers creative freedom to imagine genre-disrupting jewellery pieces, distinctive cuts and novel applications, challenging the conventions of how a diamond is created, perceived, and worn.
Now, SNOW is inviting a Wallpaper* Class of ’24 creative to design a one-of-a-kind object using diamonds from its laboratories and carbon matter created during the growing process. The designer will work together with SNOW’s team to make the object come to life, exploring production methods, patented technologies, and precision that far exceed previous industry capabilities.
The initiative sees brilliant minds cultivated, new talent developed, and innovation encouraged. Watch this space for more news of the project.
