Febal Casa’s ‘Onda’ kitchen island and sideboard with Zaha Hadid Architects ripple with possibility
Architectural fluidity and manufacturing excellence meet in a next-wave furniture collection

In partnership with Febal Casa
The low waves of the Adriatic, generated by its shifting sandy seabeds, are the inspiration for a new collection that Febal Casa has designed in collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects, comprising a beautifully fluid kitchen island and accompanying sideboard.
Zaha Hadid Architects’ Patrik Schumacher and Maurizio Meossi interpreted the primordial energy of the sea to create an aesthetic for the doors of the ‘Onda’ collection in which light, shape and materials interact. ‘What we love about this project is realising the dream which designers and artists had for a long time: to recreate the subtle beauty of nature,’ says Schumacher.
‘Onda’ kitchen island
The doors of the collection’s pieces feature sculpted back-painted fused glass with metal effect surfaces in a range of hues – Metal Onda, Metal Bronzo Onda, Metal Champagne Onda and Metal Iridio Onda – evoking the depth of water and its ever-changing reflections. Aluminium frames add a contemporary lightness.
The sideboard’s lacquered top and casing offer seamless continuity, while glass shelving and blade-style supports emphasise the lightness of touch.
‘Onda’ sideboard
The kitchen island – in lengths from 1,800mm to 3,600mm, with a fixed depth of 1,218mm – is a sculptural centrepiece. Textured, metallic effects contrast with the worktop, side panels and base in a choice of Febal Casa materials such as Gres, Abitum, Laminam, Neolith, Optimum and Laminate, exploring the relationship between light and matter. Rigorously designed but extremely customisable, the kitchen can include a hob, a hob with integrated hood, and a sink, as well as modules that can be equipped with drawers and baskets. Its back-painted fused glass with metal effect door is a pure design statement: a feature that does not merely define volume but reshapes the entire space, moving beyond the concept of a front panel to become an architectural element.
Having already worked with some of the world’s most notable architects, such as Daniel Libeskind, Febal Casa commissioned Zaha Hadid Architects to transform its architectural vision into a scalable product designed to integrate into different living contexts. Blending craftsmanship and advanced industrial production excellence while maintaining a balance between striking design and functionality, the ‘Onda’ pieces ‘echo the timeless coherence of nature but also celebrate Febal Casa’s heritage’, explains project director Meossi. ‘By marrying the fluid forms evident in the natural world with detailed craftsmanship, the collection embodies both contemporary innovation and historic tradition.’
