Sixty Soho — New York, USA
Opening its doors nearly 14 years ago, 60 Thompson was the first hotel in what was to become the Thompson chain, initiated by real estate developer Jack Pomeranc and his three sons, Lawrence, Michael and Jason. Today, the family, who no longer have ties with the group, have a new hospitality firm, which smartly started life with an instant portfolio that includes a handful of the original Thompson properties. Currently re-shaping them to fit the new Sixty Hotel look, first to re-launch is the original flagship, whose reinvigorated interiors do its legacy justice. Now called Sixty Soho, the reincarnation is the work of British design firm Tara Bernerd & Partners, who's overhauled the property to create an inviting and discreet atmosphere. Like a private home or a well-worn members club, it mixes layered textures with rich finishes and handsome palette. Upstairs, the 97 rooms feature timber plank floors, petrol blue lacquer desks and caramel leather furnishings, while a private rooftop terrace ensures exclusive luxury. Launching in stages, a new watering hole, by the name of The Gordon Bar has now opened for business, while a casual Italian eatery, to be designed by Martin Brudnizki, is up next.
