Fogo Island Inn — Fogo Island, Canada
The time has come for those who haven't been able to qualify for the Fogo Island Arts Corporation's artist-in-residence program to access the remote island just off the coast of Newfoundland. As with its unique artist studios scattered across the island, Fogo Island's new 29-suite property has been once again designed by Newfoundland-born, Norway-based architect Todd Saunders, who set it on a number of pilotis, offering panoramic views of the rocky coastline through floor-to-ceiling windows. The inn's public facilities include a fine-dining restaurant, lounge, bar, gym, cinema and a set of wood-fired saunas and hot tubs (the latter set on the inn's rooftop for some late-night star-gazing). Studioilse has been the driving force in gathering the islands artisans in equipping the inn with hand-crafted furniture and fixtures.
