Creative director Clare Waight Keller is already well acquainted with the key tenants of a desirable wardrobe. She herself, after all, has created many of them, including the statement-making, oversized outerwear that has become a Chloé classic of late. This is a corner of the closet that is already fully stocked for many Chloé girls. But there will be new reason to dig in again next winter with her most recent collection that brought scintillating new textures to woolly and furry jackets and coats. Waight Keller worked with both flat printing as well as 3D texture, employing light-as-air micro marabou feathers, or wispy yarns to animate the surface of navy or saffron dresses, or creamy coats and sweaters. An oversized fox coat came printed with a wild leopard and dotted with stains of red and yellow, while another marabou confection was printed with brown and white spots. The outerwear was boxy and well-built, including a powdery leather-ish puffer coat that was cinched chicly at the waist. All of this provided a terrific shield for the gossamer-thin, silk-printed long-sleeved dresses beneath. But the most intriguing dresses were those featuring gold discs the size of saucers that ran up the arms of dresses, across pencil skirts or down the entire front of one warrior-like shielded dress. Surely that is a covetable little something that the Chloé girl doesn't currently own.
