Mood board: Elevating clothing archetypes with luxurious fabrications and well-considered detailing is what Margaret Howell is known for. This season the designer transported us to a Southern France artists' colony by simply tying a spotted handkerchief around each of her models' necks. Crisp but casual seemed to be spring's mantra, which saw starched shirts and fine gauge knitwear tucked into high-waisted, pleated pants or Bermuda shorts in an elegant palette of black, white, sand, khaki and dusty blue.
Best in show: Howell's evergreen anoraks, this season cut in unexpected hues like greige and pistachio, and teamed with buttoned-up shirts (and even with a tie), presented a more formal approach to weekend dressing, which was shared on other LC:M runways.
Finishing touches: It would be an understatement to say that the Teva, reef-style Velcro sandal has caught on - we've seen them en masse on and off the catwalk in London. At Howell, they were styled with striped ribbed socks, which somehow made them a little less tourista, more urban adventurer.
