This August marks a truly exceptional date in the spirits calendar, as The Dalmore releases The Dalmore Decades – a unique collection of six outstanding single malt whiskies that span the years since 1951.

The collection’s title is fittingly chosen for a spirit whose exquisite nuances of flavour are developed over many years in expertly curated casks. Those who know about whisky will know that it is the skill and knowledge behind the choice of cask that results in a single malt whisky that stands at the very pinnacle of the whisky maker’s craft.

Master distiller Richard Paterson has been at the helm of The Dalmore for nearly 50 years, and is a pioneer of luxury single malt whisky production. With an unparalleled understanding of rare and precious casks, and the art of guiding the spirit contained within them towards its full potential, he pushes the boundaries of what is possible in whisky making.

The Dalmore Decades is Paterson’s personal selection – each decanter celebrates its uniquely talented creators, and also the illustrious 180-year history of the brand. Whisky collectors take note, though, that when asked what the greatest Dalmore he has ever made is, Paterson responded: ‘We haven’t made it yet.’ Something, then, to look forward to.

Three sets of The Dalmore’s whisky will be released, heralding an opportunity for collectors to own a rare piece of the history of this great spirit. The first set of six whiskies, the No. 6 collection, will be offered at auction by Sotheby’s in Hong Kong in October 2021, with a significant percentage of the sale to be donated to Scotland’s first design museum, the V&A Dundee, designed by Kengo Kuma.

Not content to rest on its laurels as a producer of exceptionally fine whisky, The Dalmore recently unveiled a long-term commitment to championing the arts, and to supporting the design and creative sectors, including through its partnership with the V&A Dundee.

The pursuit of excellence is followed through with a determination to nurture creative talent and celebrate Scottish culture – and we can all raise a glass to that.
