Interior stylist Melanie Lissack explores the role of light as a design material, using Govee’s ‘Lantern Floor Lamp’ to shape mood and create a more atmospheric approach to contemporary living

Govee's latest campaign reinforces the idea that lighting deserves the same creative consideration as the furnishings, materials and architecture that define a space. Working with interior stylist and author Melanie Lissack, the brand explores light as a design material in its own right – one that reveals texture, shapes atmosphere and subtly transforms the experience of a room from morning through to night.
This philosophy sits at the heart of Govee’s ‘Lantern Floor Lamp’, which translates light into an almost tactile medium, quietly enriching everyday living while complementing contemporary interiors.

Lissack, whose colourful yet considered approach combines period character with contemporary design, recently incorporated the lamp into her home. For her, lighting is ‘the ultimate styling tool’, and a floor lamp, for example, can bring colour, pattern and architectural details to life in ways that overhead lighting rarely can.
With its softly curved silhouette, ‘The “Lantern Floor Lamp” acts as the perfect anchor,’ says Lissack. ‘Its Halo Gradient Lighting casts a gentle, ring-shaped glow that bathes the room in beautifully soft light,’ she adds, referring to the lamp’s ability to emit layered washes of colour – adjustable by the user – that interact with surrounding materials, softening painted walls, enriching natural wood, catching chrome accents and revealing the weave of linen upholstery with quiet subtlety.
Lissack found herself using the lamp to adapt the atmosphere throughout the day, favouring tones that echoed the room's palette in daylight before moving towards warmer ochres, terracottas and dusty pinks as evening approached. The transition transforms familiar spaces into environments that feel calmer, softer and more immersive.

That emphasis on atmosphere extends beyond aesthetics. Govee's ‘DaySync’ feature subtly adjusts light throughout the day, following natural circadian rhythms with gradual shifts in warmth and intensity. ‘It mirrors the sensory transition we need at home,’ says Lissack. ‘By following the sun's natural cycle, lighting becomes an intuitive part of how we move through the day.’
The lamp also proved remarkably adaptable. Originally intended for one space by Lissack, it ultimately found a place beside a botanical mural in her TV room, where its atmospheric glow revealed new depth within the space. ‘It worked beautifully,’ she reflects. ‘It speaks to how versatile both the design and the light really are.’
As interiors increasingly prioritise atmosphere alongside aesthetics, light is emerging as one of the most expressive materials available to designers. Govee demonstrates how thoughtful illumination can shape spaces that feel layered, characterful and quietly atmospheric.
