Cosmically charged: cult juice bar Moon Juice is LA's new squeeze
‘Moon Juice is much more than juice,’ says Amanda Chantal Bacon, founder of the Los Angeleno lifestyle brand, Moon Juice. Bacon, a New York native who honed her palette at the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont, then the West Hollywood fine-dining destination Lucques, and then as Food and Wine editor at the L.A. Times Magazine, opened the first Moon Juice counter in a tiny space in Venice Beach in 2012. The spot purveyed an array of cold-pressed fruits, nuts and vegetables and has since become integral to the Los Angeles juice-cleanse zeitgeist, served with the enthusiastic, West Coast-appropriate mantra, ‘Thrive cosmically!’
In addition to its Matcha Lemonades, Hemp Milks, and Aloe Tonics, however, Moon Juice’s wide range of specialty merchandise sets it apart from the myriad of other cold-pressed juiceries in L.A. Bacon’s so-called Moon Pantry and Cosmic Provisions include active fermented sea vegetables, for example, or jarred bee pollen—all of which Bacon describes as equipped with ‘its own healing force of herbs and adaptogenic plants to support your life force, elevate your consciousness, and beautify.’
‘Our offerings are crafted with divine intentions delivered in exquisite taste and guided by ancient wisdom,’ Bacon explains, and the success of her one-stop holistic shop has since allowed her to expand to locations in Silver Lake and outside the Ace Hotel in Downtown L.A. Throughout, she keeps the interiors simple: ample white surfaces with flourishes of light-colored woods and lots and lots of plants. ‘There's a warmth and intimacy to the spaces but the palettes are cool, simple, and clean,’ she says, ‘leaving space for the plants to come alive.’
