Archizines exhibition, London
The go-to site for independent architecture fanzines, books and rare pamphlets, Archizines is giving people a chance to rifle through hundreds of its latest titles at an exhibition at the Architectural Association in London.
The website is the brainchild of curator and writer Elias Redstone, and Barcelona-based agency Folch Studio. Spanning photocopied pamphlets to print-on-demand newsletters, as well as beautiful fully-fledged magazines, the collection includes intriguing and inspiring publications like Another Pamphlet, Evil People in Modernist Homes in Popular Films, Scapegoat and Preston is My Paris. The countries represented are equally varied, ranging from Australia to Argentina.
Naturally, each magazine is available to read at the exhibition, while video interviews with their creators are also there to help guide the visitor through each publication's world and concept.
A catalogue published by Bedford Press accompanies the show and features contributions from Adam Murray (Preston is my Paris), Rob Wilson (Block), Mimi Zeiger (Maximum Maxim MMX/loudpaper) and more, in a series of essays touching upon fanzines as a platform for architectural discourse and the role of architecture, and independent press. As an added bonus, the whole collection of Archizines will now move to the National Art Library at the V&A, where it will find a permanent home, providing a valuable resource to researchers and the public alike.
This is a celebration of the alternative and independent architectural press, featuring a carefully curated mix of 60 titles from 20 different countries.
