Breath of fresh air: Dyson debuts new hairdryer, entitled Supersonic
Dyson has premiered an innovative new device – a hairdryer that has been designed with a miniature air pump in the handle, that adopts the same airflow principles as its other products.
Creating an evolution of the hairdryer was a natural decision for the technology company. ‘We make very high speed motors,' they explain, 'so it’s rather obvious that we would carry on and use that in everything involved in air flow.’
Renowned for its work with vacuum cleaners and hand dryer technology, Dyson seems to have thrown caution to the wind with its newest invention, entitled Supersonic – having already invested £50 million in its development. The brand employed a variety of techniques in assuring that the new product was the best it could be, including collaborating with professional stylist Akin Konizi and even purchasing £40,000 worth of natural hair on which to test it.
After committing a considerable financial injection, Dyson claims to have discovered that the biggest issues with drying hair are the attachments and the device's tendency to overheat hair. Compensating for these issues, the new hairdryer has been designed to measure air temperature 20 times a second – in order to keep the device cool – and also incorporates magnetic styling attachments.
A near silent delivery had been mooted as a selling point, and although not completely inaudible, with the Supersonic you can at least have a conversation while drying your hair. With this simple simple innovation alone, it all feels like a breath of fresh air.
