Ace Hotel and Block Shop unveil capsule collection at Modernism Week

Textile company Block Shop – creator of the beloved Commune Wall mural at Ace Hotel in Palm Springs – has created a print-tastic capsule collection to ring in Modernism Week.
Founders (and sisters) Lily and Hopie Stockman have been Ace guests since it opened nearly a decade ago, and have based the collection on holidays spent at the hotel. ‘It’s our favourite place to lounge, swim, and sleep,’ says Hopie. ‘The collection is an ode to the art of lazing poolside in the Palm Springs winter sun.’

Comprising a lightweight organic cotton robe, gossamer-thin pool wrap, and quilted linen throw, the collection is hand block-printed in modernist patterns. Throwing on the scarf feels like you’re wrapping yourself in a length of the mural.
Its exactly the kind of cultural partnership Ace jumps on. ‘We were so taken by the mural that they painted last year that we immediately looked for deeper ways to foster the collaboration,’ said Kelly Sawdon, partner and chief brand officer at Ace Hotel Group. ‘Rooted in the California desert and showcasing the sisters’ signature geometric shapes, these are tactile pieces you can keep close to you.’
The collection, embued with relaxed resort-wear chic, also speak to the hotel’s humble beginnings. The mid-century desert modern treasure started life as a Westward Ho with a Denny’s. Emphasising understated craft and comfort, each piece would fit in as well then as it does in the luxury 176-room resort now. Either way, the collection pays homage to the art of lounging.
