Earlier this year, we awarded The North Face x Gucci's intrepid collaboration the Best Exploration gong in our Wallpaper* Design Awards 2021. It wasn't just the Wallpaper* team wowed over by the luxurious link up. Today, the Lyst Index's quarterly report, which reports on the most popular brands and products four times a year, has ranked The North Face x Gucci's canvas GG logo women's puffer jacket as the most popular item of the year so far.
Reaching new sartorial heights, the men’s and women’s collection featured a range of ready-to-wear, accessories and footwear that have a luxe explorer’s spirit, from walking boots to padded onesies, bucket hats to lumberjack shirts. But it’s the offering’s range of puffer jackets, hiking rucksacks and bum bags, swathed in psychedelic and floral prints, that really reached a patterned style peak.
The North Face x Gucci, at Selfridges’ Corner Shop
We strode into 2021 in pieces that nodded to the graphic design history of both brands. Think puffer jackets with graphic retro prints that incorporate Gucci’s interlinked ‘GG’ motif, or patterns featuring The North Face logo, the base of its ‘Half Dome’ peak motif reimagined in Gucci’s classic red and green colour palette. Gucci’s hiking-inspired hook up follows a series of successful brand collaborations, including those with Disney and Liberty.
The capsule collection launched through a series of Gucci Pins – the brand’s globe-spanning temporary stores, which have popped up in cities including Seongnam and Denver, the first being Selfridges' Corner Shop in London. It also debuted in Pokémon GO, with players able to pick up pieces for their Trainers via 100 PokéStops.
