Paul Smith S/S 2015
Sir Paul set out to dress the global nomad for S/S 2015. Silk rucksack on, she strode stylishly through the designer's urbane plywood jungle in relaxed, dusty pastel and khaki tailoring. Before long this soft suiting was joined by seersucker and butcher's stripes, work-friendly culottes and shell tops that were edged with a somewhat tribal tinged fringe. When it came to dresses, they were brilliantly simple, drop-waisted shifts, finished with plissé and teamed with leather sandals or two-tone brogue lace-ups. But also in the mix, was a utility feel derived from the Brit's funnel neck shirting, silken bomber jackets, cross-body bags and webbed belting, before he ventured south of the border. Here, the designer's opening African fringe became a frayed blanket selvage on tweedy skirt looks and graduating primary-coloured, candy stripe dresses. Offering unlimited ease, this was a show that succeeded in transporting the wanderer's spirit to the city limits.
