The doors have just opened to this year's Brit Insurance Design Awards exhibition in London, where among the exhibits - ranging from Yves Behar's Swarovski chandelier to the Riversimple Urban Car - is Wallpaper's own baby, the Custom Covers project, up for best interactive design.

Visitors to the Design Museum show will be able to create their own Wallpaper* cover using our online application (installed on computers in the gallery), and print out their design on a postcard. Their handiwork will also be added to a gallery of covers on Wallpaper.com.

Originally devised for our Handmade issue (August 2010), the application enabled readers to customise their copy of the magazine, and will soon be brought back, refreshed, for Handmade mark two.

The Brit Insurance Design Awards are now in their fourth year, and span the full creative spectrum, taking in architecture, fashion, furniture, graphics, product, interactive and transport. Others who have made this year's shortlist include Herzog & de Meuron's Vitrahaus, the Comme des Garçons Trading Museum Tokyo, the 'Quarz Series' by Max Lamb for J&L Lobmeyr and Gareth Pugh's spring/summer collection 2011.

Proving that great minds think alike, many of our own Design Award winners have been nominated, such as Nendo's Thin Black Lines collection and BCXSY's Origin screen.

Judging the awards this year are the likes of designer Bill Moggridge, curator Janice Blackburn and graphic designer Mark Farrow. The seven category winners will be unveiled on 28th February and the overall Brit Insurance Design of the Year will be crowned at the awards dinner on 15th March, scooping a trophy designed by Ross Lovegrove.
