Party walls: AMO brings the Miu Miu Club to life

AMO joined forces with Miu Miu to create a one-off, temporary event club space in Paris.

Architecture super-lab AMO - the think tank of acclaimed international architecture practice OMA - teamed up with fashion brand Miu Miu to create a bespoke concept event in Paris.

Housed at 1937 Palais d'Iena, the Miu Miu Club was designed as a pop-up, temporary intervention, led by AMO's Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli - also the OMA partner behind the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale's Monditalia exhibition. Live for one night only, the club took over the official CESE government offices, hosting a dinner, fashion show and several music acts.

The space was conceived as a 'room within a room', explain AMO. So, a special scaffolding ring was set up in the building's Hypostyle area, to help create a series of lounges and different rooms beneath. The slim metal parts also help visually offset the existing building's distinct main material - concrete. Plastic sheets were used to define the room's boundaries, highlighting its transient nature.

Still, a subtle sense of luxury is ever-present in the rich white carpet upholstery of the furniture. The catwalk takes centre stage, supported by the same scaffolding structure, high up above the guests. This way, the ground level's central space was kept free and open, acting as the main dance floor. Let the party begin.
