Quartz mastery
In this exclusive film, Arik Levy explores new veins in his collection and installation for surface company Compac
Artist/designer Arik Levy has collaborated with Spanish surface brand Compac on an intense new collection, 'Genesis', for this year's Design Miami. In celebration of its debut, the Isreali-born creative realised an installation with the wares at the brand's booth, showcasing its dynamic qualities through abstract sculptures and furniture.
'Walking on ice is everything about stability and fragility,' says the designer. It is this ethos that Levy has championed in the natural collection, which pairs his emotional flair with quartz, resin and mineral from Compac's archive. What makes Levy's collection stand out is an innovative and enlarged vein effect, which form artistic patterns. In this exclusive video, Levy reveals the 'mind over matter' approach of his studio and what makes the collection so effortlessly powerful.
'Ice' is on view until 4 December in the main exhibition tent of Design Miami. Meridian Avenue & 19th Street, Miami Beach
