Bespoke Partnership
Rooted in Italian heritage, Tooy is redefining bespoke lighting
Italian lighting company Tooy translates ‘made-in-Italy’ savoir-faire into contemporary, one-of-a-kind pieces
In Partnership With Tooy
Each interior space is as unique as the person who inhabits it. So it’s only natural that every project deserves its own lighting. At Tooy, the Italian lighting brand, they believe light is more than illumination, but rather part of a space’s identity. From office-inspired interior architecture to personal residences, Tooy collaborates with professionals to develop custom lighting pieces that elevate a space.

‘Nastro System’ designed by Studiopepe
‘Tooy was born from my family heritage in lighting that dates back over six decades, and a desire to redefine how we live with light; not just functionally, but through atmosphere, and identity,’ explains co-founder Valeria Giacomozzi.
'Linfa' designed by Federico Peri
‘Light is part of the architecture of a room,’ continues Giacomozzi. ‘Perhaps before you notice a chair, a painting, or a beautiful floor, you feel the light. It's what gives a space its soul. A room can have impeccable furniture and exquisite materials, but if the light is wrong, it will never feel right. And if the light is right, even a simple space can feel extraordinary.’

Working closely with its clients, Tooy now offers its ‘Custom Program’, which is designed to bring project-driven lighting concepts to life. Although family-owned, the company format is structured, which in turn creates products that have a distinctive identity, and tell a story through light.

The team expertly create bespoke pieces that boast function and form; whether for architects, interior designers, contractors or other professionals, Tooy works flexibly to customise each piece to a customer’s needs.
'Nastro System' designed by Studiopepe
‘From the beginning, we understood that tailor-made should not be a side service, but part of our DNA,’ explains co-founder Valerio Tidei. ‘It’s our way of translating made-in-Italy savoir-faire into contemporary, one-of-a-kind pieces.’
'Nabila' chandelier designed by Corrado Dotti
Each piece, as he says, is crafted in Italy, and there are multiple products in several collections to choose from. Options include, but are not limited to, the ‘Linfa’ chandelier, which branches out in groups of pointed light, designed by Federico Peri; ‘Nabila’, a 1950s-inspired collection of elegant and sophisticated lamps, and ‘Osman’, a family of lamps drawing on rational design, both by Corrado Dotti; the ‘Nastro’ collection by Studiopepe, which encompasses a new slim and sinuous modular system; ‘Thula’ appliques and suspension lamps, designed by Federica Biasi; and ‘Tratti’ by Cara \ Davide, a sculptural and modular lighting system.

There are also new collaborations, among them the ‘Igor’ lamp, designed by Duccio Maria Gambi, which is rooted in sophisticated geometry. It can be altered into various compositions, existing either as a solitary element or as part of a cluster. There’s also the nautically inspired ‘Bolina’ collection, by architect and designer Fabio Fantolino.

Using these models as a starting point, or perhaps jumping into a fully bespoke development, each lighting piece should reflect the shifting needs of how a space is inhabited, believes the Tooy team. Whether through tweaking the powder coatings, metals, glass tones and textures; scaling up the size of a piece; or undertaking technical customisations, Tooy helps to make sure that lighting does more than just illuminate. Giacomozzi adds, ‘Beyond light itself, we want users to feel this sense of rarity, quality, and belonging to a design culture that is both contemporary and deeply rooted in Italian expertise.’

From concept to execution, it is a seamless exchange. ‘Designers and artisans work side by side, ensuring that ideas remain both visionary and feasible,’ explains Tidei. ‘Every project is approached as if it were a prototype; tested, refined, crafted.

‘This constant dialogue between creativity and engineering is what allows us to move fluidly from catalogue collections to bespoke commissions, without compromising vision, while staying true to our family legacy and its commitment to coherence and quality. It's an Italian way of working, really, where craft and concept have never been strangers to each other.’
