Sei Saadiyat brings a sense of stillness to Abu Dhabi’s cultural heart

In a part of Abu Dhabi increasingly defined by art and architecture, Aldar’s latest residential project focuses on stillness. Set within Saadiyat Cultural District, Sei Saadiyat brings together architecture, interiors and landscape to make moments of calm part of everyday life.

The idea begins with its name. Sei, meaning stillness and calm in Japanese, sets the tone for a development shaped around opportunities to restore, recharge and connect. Rather than limiting the idea to dedicated spaces, the approach extends across the buildings and their interiors, through landscaped courtyards and into the shared areas residents encounter throughout the day.

Architecture by Jacobs places the development’s 778 residences around planted courtyards, with façades responding to shifts in light and shade. At ground level, meandering paths and layered planting soften the transition between buildings, while gardens and a discovery trail offer places to walk, pause or simply spend time outside.

Kettle Collective takes a similarly quiet approach to the interiors. Stone, timber and textured surfaces are paired with simple forms and balanced proportions, using natural variations in material and tone to bring warmth to an otherwise restrained palette. The result is less about minimalism for its own sake than creating a backdrop for daily life that feels tactile and grounded.

Homes range from one- and two-bedroom apartments to two-bedroom Kanso Lofts and three-bedroom Kanso Residences. The lofts introduce a new residential format for Aldar, with double-height, open-plan living areas and elevated bedrooms overlooking the main space. Selected upper-floor residences have views towards the museums and architecture of Saadiyat Cultural District, including the upcoming Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, as well as the Arabian Gulf and Abu Dhabi skyline.

That emphasis on finding different rhythms continues through the shared spaces. Three mind and body studios are joined by hot and cold baths, a spa, sauna and treatment room, while a zen garden with serenity pool creates another setting for quieter moments. Rooftop pools and social gardens encourage time outdoors, while co-working spaces, a library and gaming lounge, and cinema rooms accommodate the more social parts of everyday life.

The cultural district itself becomes part of that experience. Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi and Abrahamic Family House are all nearby, placing art, culture and architecture within the orbit of daily routines, rather than treating them simply as destinations to visit.

It is this relationship between home and its surroundings that gives Sei Saadiyat its character. Here, stillness is not presented as an escape from everyday life, but something that can be found within it – in changing light, natural materials, a walk through a garden or a quiet moment at home.

Residences at Sei Saadiyat start from AED 2.95m, with a five per cent down payment and 50/50 payment plan. Handover is scheduled to commence from Q4 2030.
