The city never stops – and neither do the visionaries who shape it: the architects, the designers, the planners, the engineers, the innovators. This LVMH Watch Week, Zenith channels the spirit of the urban landscape and those who inhabit it with a bold evolution of its Defy collection, a cornerstone of the manufacture and a focal point of its modern watchmaking vision.

Inspired by the dynamism of Milan, LVMH Watch Week’s host city, the new additions to the Defy collection honour Zenith’s storied heritage as Switzerland's first vertically integrated watch manufacture – founded in 1865 by Georges Favre-Jacot in Le Locle – while infusing it with a contemporary spirit that echoes the city’s sharp lines, striking structures and rhythmic energy.

At the forefront is the Defy Skyline Chronograph. Following its debut in full blue ceramic for Zenith’s 160th anniversary in 2025, it now arrives in deep black ceramic, alongside a black-and-gold Defy Skyline Skeleton and the first-ever Defy Skyline Tourbillon Skeleton with a rose-gold case and an intense blue openworked dial.

The Defy Skyline Chronograph is a city in miniature: architectural, bold and structural. Its ceramic case, durable and lightweight, is designed for navigating the urban landscape. The ceramic is coloured rather than merely coated, producing a depth that nods to the shadowed recesses of the city, the brushed and polished finishes evoke the clean lines and contours of contemporary landmarks.

Concentric patterns on the chronograph’s three counters reflect the geometry of urban planning, while faceted hands with luminescent markers guarantee legibility from subway depths to skyscraper pinnacle. An integrated quick-change strap system allows effortless transitions between a two-link ceramic bracelet and patterned black rubber, offering versatility in an ever-shifting environment.

More than a style statement, the Defy Skyline Chronograph is engineered to keep pace with urban life. Beneath its surface, the El Primero 3600 calibre beats tirelessly. Its world-first 1/10th-of-a-second running indicator, visible through a sapphire case back, replaces the traditional central seconds hand, completing a rotation every ten seconds – a mechanical echo of the city’s relentless rhythm.

‘Our guiding principle was to draw a parallel between a city built by an architect and a watch created by a watchmaker – two precision arts that structure space and time,’ says Benoît de Clerck, CEO of Zenith Watches. ‘The watch becomes a metaphor for the city. Imagination, evolution and expertise intersect to show that building a city or constructing a watch is, ultimately, giving form to the invisible.’

City-proof in design and durability and precise in its ceaseless mechanism, the Defy Skyline Chronograph reflects Zenith’s fusion of legacy and innovation, keeping the wearer perfectly in step with a fast-paced, modern world.

The Defy Skyline Chronograph is available at Zenith boutiques, online and through authorised retailers worldwide.
