Miami is home to a wealth of private art foundations, mostly located in the Wynwood district. The Rubell Family Collection, run by Don and Mera Rubell and their children Jason and Jennifer, is the crown jewel, currently housed in a 40,000 square foot warehouse – a former confiscated goods store for the DEA. The Rubell’s mighty collection – which includes works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman, Yayoi Kusama, Ai Weiwei and much more – is not to be missed. The collection is set to move to a new home, designed by Selldorf Architects, in Miami’s Allapattah district in 2019. §
