There's change in the air at Southgate, the eating and shopping precinct overlooking Melbourne's Yarra River, heralded by its newest arrival: Italian wine bar and café Artusi. Espousing a philosophy based on Pellegrino Artusi's 1891 tome La Scienza in Cucina e L'Arte di Mangiar Bene (The Science of Cookery and the Art of Eating Well), and with Sicilian chef Leandro Panza in the kitchen, the restaurant should find an eager following. Offerings include handmade pasta, wood-roasted duck and Italian snacks - ideal for a quick meal before a visit to the nearby Arts Centre. Chris Connell's design features natural timber, gleaming copper and vast windows overlooking the city.
