Scene setting: Eckhaus Latta designers Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta are known for luring the fashion set to the depths of Brooklyn for their guerilla-style fashion shows. This season proved somewhat kinder with the duo choosing a more centrally located Brooklyn venue, namely a ground floor, nondescript warehouse in the shadow of Brooklyn's Barclays Center. The industrial setting, complete with heavy metal shutters, loading ramps and concrete pillars, still made an evocative backdrop, especially for the artful showcase that was to follow.
Mood board: Eckhaus Latta's brand of artfully crafted clothing took on a particularly associative feel with swirling space dye fabrics, open weave, body skimming knits, optical stripes and tailored, albeit slightly distorted pieces all getting into the mix. In addition to their signature, figure-accentuating pieces, the label also presented a slew of shirts with tape like seams that emphasised the physique along with simple tank dresses brightly adorned with sparkling sequins. A study in contrasts, with lots of unexpected elements, this collection was a departure from their usual stride.
Finishing touches: The newest fruits of Eckhaus Latta's collaboration with Ugg, which has continued for a second season, similarly toed the boundaries of one's comfort zone. Chunky platform clogs in shades of cream, blue and tan were paired with an unequivocally square toe. There were also velcro-strapped sneakers, lace-up sandals, platform heels and cowboy boots with an equally block-like feel to them.
