Delfina Delettrez's jewellery is often playful, sometimes odd and yet always captivating. Her surreal take on what can and should adorn the body has yielded powerfully original results in her short career.

For Fall 2013, the Rome-born designer dubbed her collection 'Magic Triangle', a riff on the collection's otherworldly theme. It also nodded to her use of three-pronged settings of giant, emerald-cut topaz, a stone she's never worked with before and one that conveniently gives, as she says, 'this UFO-like feeling'.

Equally as interesting as the merchandise is Delettrez's way of presenting it each season.  Expanding on her concept of alien phenomena, the designer nabbed German photographer Daniel Sannwald to create a 3-D parallel dimension of blue sky. Here the jewellery - including her new 'shark attack' series of fin-shaped coloured stones - appears suspended in crystal-clear air.

'When you deal with precious stones, jewellery becomes a fragment of eternity,' explains Delettrez. 'I wanted to represent it in a new dimension, a futuristic one.'

Sannwald created futuristic artificial landscapes where Delettrez's jewellery mingles with crumbling statuary and other fragments from the past. The arousing stills are accompanied by a motion video. 'Technology is just a tool,' says Sannwald of his dreamy digital environments. 'I am interested in beauty which lies in the fields of spirituality. Delfina and I found a common ground in the search for mental landscapes.'

The collection's name, 'Magic Triangle', nods to Delettrez's use of three-pronged settings of giant, emerald-cut topaz.
