While our inaugural Wallympic* sports special was racing towards its finish line, we found ourselves asking the question: what if medals were given out for a nation's design prowess? A quick calculation based on our most recent Design Awards issue made for interesting, but not entirely conclusive, reading (see our June issue). So we thought a much better way to sort out the Bolts from the bronzes would be to ask you, the most design literate audience in the world, to tell us which would be your top design nation.
After some fierce competition, the Wallympic* Games now have a winner. Germany - the nation that spawned the Bauhaus movement, Mies van der Rohe and Karl Lagerfeld - scored gold. Meanwhile, Canada took home Silver and London picked up Bronze. In a surprise twist, Italy, our own Design Awards-topping country, came in at a paltry ninth place.
