'I am genuinely fascinated by all the weirdness in the world and how every single one of us live in our own different realities,' says Elizabeth Doonan. 'That's what I want to make films about.' 'Francis The Finder', the poignant 10-minute film that earned her a distinction, explores just such themes; the protagonist is a hoarder who falls in love with a mannequin, and through whom the wider human strengths and frailties surrounding love, loss and loneliness are examined. Doonan's passion for her medium is tangible. 'I love film for the same reasons I love music and drama - one can create and crystallise a story or emotion and in that space of time you can say a million things or you can say nothing and its up to the viewer to take what they want from it.' She's currently working on script ideas, including one featuring a character her Dad made up when she was a child. 'He was called 'The Hairy Fairy.' The character that is, not my Dad.'
Most inspired by: I love directors like Wes Anderson, Spike Jones. Oh, and John Hughes, I have a penchant for 1980s movies.
