Behind the Set: Hugo Boss A/W 2015

Echoing the New York skyline with a cityscape showspace, Jason Wu staged his show in a construction site

In September 2014, Boss creative director Jason Wu projected vegetative woodland scenes onto the industrial columns of a New York City skyscraper, offering a little natural respite from the urban setting. For A/W 2015, the designer was interested in the built environment itself.

'I like the idea of staging my Boss shows in a building in construction,' Wu explains of the show's 225 Liberty Street location, 'because I feel like the Boss womenswear identity is still a work in progress. I'm also fascinated by the idea of urbanity: a cityscape is a modern backdrop for a show. It's beautiful, but it's real. It's about a world view.'

Produced by Bureau Betak and set high within the New York skyline, transparent columns jutted out of tiered wooden terraces: 'This time, we've also echoed the external skyscraper of the World Financial Center in the internal showspace,' he continues, 'with pillars of corrugated plastic echoing the building's faceted glass. That finds a way into the clothes too. It's an aesthetic that's all interrelated.'
