Artist’s model

We join artist Marc Quinn in his studio as he shoots muse Jenny Bastet for the September 2015 issue of Wallpaper*. Quinn, who also art directed the shoot, has set Bastet against works from latest White Cube show, ‘The Toxic Sublime’

To coincide with his latest exhibition, ‘The Toxic Sublime’, a series of multi-layered, three-dimensional seascapes at White Cube Bermondsey, we invited British artist Marc Quinn to blur the boundaries between fashion and art, flesh and fantasy, with the aid of his muse, dancer Jenny Bastet. The show's theme, as the title suggests, is nature derailed and despoiled. Thirteen Toxic Sublimes appear here, crumpled aluminium sheets with dirty sunsets, mostly unrecognisable as such, bonded on their surfaces. Working with Wallpaper* fashion director Isabelle Kountoure for W*198, we get an exclusive look at Quinn's artistic eye in action as he creates, juxtaposes and captures a truly remarkable – properly sublime, perhaps – fashion shoot.
