Mood board: Kris Van Assche’s Dior Homme collection had a pragmatic and romantic title - ‘Opening Night & Daydreaming’ – which pertained perfectly to his initial inclination towards strict tuxedo silhouettes that transitioned into a bankable crop of gentlemanly daywear. The dreaming came later too, by way of a pressed floral screen-print in solarised yellow that lifted an otherwise sober season.
Scene setting: Inside the Tennis Club de Paris, an ominous black curtain surrounded by black parquet floor was lifted to reveal a neat line of string musicians seated at their music stands, whose live performance was blended with electronic beats for the show’s stirring soundtrack.
Best in show: Van Assche mastered deconstruction with technical prowess in a series of crisp, flat coats and gilets cut from light panels of dense jersey and mesh.
