There's nothing quite like waking to the aroma of freshly baked bread, so while the latest move of the Spanish hotel group Praktik may be slightly unorthodox, it certainly makes sense. Slap bang in the middle of their chic, new Barcelona hotel Praktik Bakery is Baluard, a traditional bakery led by Anna Bellsolá, offering pastries and loaves all day long. Located in the city's Eixample district and around the corner from the swank Passeig de Gràcia, the hotel was designed by Lazaro Rosa-Violán. In the 74 rooms, metro tiles and panelled walls abound and the coolly monochromatic palette is intermittently broken with bursts of yellow. At Baluard, the utilitarian interiors continue, with black beams, parquet flooring and exposed-brick walls framing the lobby-level bakery.
