Conran & Partners’ recent project, Skylon, is settling well into its new skin in the freshly restored Royal Festival Hall. Taking over from former eatery ‘The People’s Palace’, the firm’s sensitive, understated and occasionally retro refurb has provided Londoners with a fashionable bar and restaurant suspended over unparalleled views of the capital.

The Scandinavian flavoured space is divided into three distinct areas and dominated by 6m high panoramic windows. As daylight fades, three bespoke bronze chandeliers light up the warm and inviting grill area and the formal restaurant as well as the Skylon centrepiece, a glam limestone and bronze bar.

Attention to detail appears to been at the forefront of the spacious fit-out and care has been taken to reference new elements with the older scheme of the Grade 1 listed building. Chairs based on an original 1950’s design cluster neatly round tables set with David Mellor cutlery and Nick Munro’s custom designed tea and coffee-ware, perfectly complimentary to executive chef’s Helena Puolakka’s modern European menu.
