For our April issue’s Chill Factor fashion story, we sent German photographer Amira Fritz to the majestic Schloss Elmau hotel, which can be found nestled within the rolling landscape of the Bavarian Alps, close to the Austrian border.

Originally built in 1916, the 130-room retreat was given a much-needed multi-million Euro makeover to become the ideal bolthole for the well-heeled Munch community looking to escape the stresses of city life. With an abundance of activities available from hiking to whitewater rafting and yoga, the hotel also comprises six restaurants, the world’s largest hotel bookshop and an impressive four-floor spa.

But it was the lodging’s enchanting surrounding grounds that most inspired Fritz. ‘We were wondering around when we came across this waterfall,’ she says. ‘It was so untouched, like we were in a time zone.’

Fritz, who never uses a location scout, places the utmost importance on the setting. ‘I always take a day to walk around…. Suddenly you end up somewhere and you just feel it,' she explains. 'This is a special place.’ The result is a gossamer, magical spread that impeccably sums up what Fritz’s celebrated philosophy is all about.
