Anantara — Al Jabal Al Akhdar, Oman
Moving away from the predictable Emerati enclaves of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Oman has emerged as a front-runner in Middle Eastern getaways, thanks to a diverse landscape and a plethora of luxury hotels that have recently opened.
Leading the way is Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar, an extravagant five-star resort that – perched 3,000m above sea level – affords striking views of neighbouring canyons and the muscular Al Hajar Mountains.
Appearing as an elaborate fort from above, the resort’s architecture is in fact carefully considerate of the mountaintop terrain in which it sits, mirroring its contours and hues. And yet, the term ‘resort’ is an understatement; the Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar may as well be a town, with 82 rooms, 33 suites, its own museum, souk and three restaurants.
And cementing its standing as a luxury retreat is the all important shisha lounge and a signature Anantara spa, featuring a hammam, five treatment rooms, an indoor pool, Jacuzzi and steam room.
