Motto’s earliest chapters began as a distribution company for magazines, fanzines and the more interesting self-published material on the market. The time came, however, for the personnel to get more personal with their customers, and Motto began a traveling initiative called Temporary Bookshops. This in turn led to its first permanent bookshop in an old frame factory in Berlin-Kreuzberg this Spring. Drawers and drawers of magazine archives lie underneath the display shelves, while regular evening presentations and debates make Motto a frequent haunt for the local literati.
