Rio de Janeiro and its nearby resort areas are experiencing a boom in luxury hotel development, with a number of European entrepreneurs recently launching projects. The latest is the Insolito Boutique Hotel in the barefoot-chic fishing village of Buzios, two hours north of Cidade Maravilhosa.

Here, French businesswoman Emanuelle Meeus de Clermont-Tonnerre has created a stylish property, with smart continental touches like Trussardi Egyptian cotton bathrobes and free bicycles for guests-an homage to Parisian Mayor Bertrand Delanoë that is also a great way to explore the famous peninsula’s 26 beaches.
The former lawyer and scion of French nobility designed the hotel’s interiors with a particularly Brazilian flair, curating collections of furniture, design objects, art, and books for each of the spaces during her extensive travels across Brazil. The public and patio areas also feature a well-considered group of objets du désir, including wooden sofas by Elma Chavez and Unopiu deck chairs, perfect for enjoying the beautiful view of Ferradura Beach below.
