Costas and Maria Constantinou, the brother and sister team behind The Arts Theatre Club in London, have continued to bolster the Soho hospitality scene with a new reservations-only restaurant and bar down the road from their original establishment. Called Old Tom & English, after the 18th century gin recipe, the basement den – former coal vaults – features low, arched ceilings and series of individual rooms, which have been transformed into five intimate dining nooks by British designer Lee Broom. Inspired by suburban cocktail parties in the 1960s and 70s, Broom’s liberal use of his signature marble and brass details add a contemporary touch to retro furniture, which smartly paves the way for a modern British menu. A string of classics from battered fish and chips to welsh rarebit make an appearance, but we recommend the Cornish scallops buerre blanc and crispy black pudding, washed down with a vintage Highgate Negroni cocktail, served in bespoke Broom glassware.
